My name is Tran Thi Yen Nghi, but you can call me Nghi briefly. I’m a master’s student in Marketing Communications at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications. I’ve traveled all the way from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to study at Tomas Bata University (UTB). And believe me, it was well worth it! I am now proud to be one of UTB’s International Student Ambassadors, and I enjoy nothing more than sharing my experiences living and studying in Zlín. Every day, I feel grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow in such an exciting environment. | UTB Zlín
Why did you decide to study in Zlín or in the Czech Republic in general?
As an international student from Vietnam, there were several reasons why I chose to study in Zlín or the Czech Republic in general. Firstly, the education system here is of high quality, and universities like Tomas Bata University in Zlín are renowned for their excellent management, technology, economics and communications programs.
Additionally, studying in the Czech Republic is relatively affordable compared to other European countries, which was a massive factor for me as I was on a budget. The country’s central location is also a bonus, giving me easy access to other European countries for travel and exploration.
One of the most exciting aspects of studying in the Czech Republic is the opportunity to immerse oneself in the country’s rich culture and history. Zlín, in particular, is famous for its unique architecture, which was heavily influenced by its founder, Tomas Bata. Being an international student here has also allowed me to meet people from all over the world and form lasting friendships, as the country has a vibrant international student community.
What were your first thoughts when you arrived in Zlín?
My first thought about Zlín is the city of Zlín itself is a great place to live for international students. It is a small, welcoming city with a rich cultural heritage and a lively student community. The town has many activities and events catering to students’ interests, including festivals, concerts, and sports events. The people of Zlín are warm, hospitality, and friendly nature. They are often happy to help international students like me with directions, recommendations for restaurants and activities, and advice on navigating the city.
What do you like the most about studying at TBU?
I’m having a rich and rewarding academic experience at UTB. Studying here provides me access to a diverse community of students and faculty from different cultural backgrounds. An international student like me has an exceptional educational experience that is both academically rigorous and practical and also offers a unique cultural experience in a welcoming city is a blessing. And I think this presents an excellent opportunity to engage in cross-cultural communication and broaden one’s horizons. UTB has an ideal environment for studying and muli-cultural experience.
What is your favorite place/activity in Zlín?
One of my favorite places in Zlín is the beautiful park near the city center. I usually go there for an excellent spot to relax, unwind, and picnic with friends. We typically bring our food and drinks to the park, but several food vendors and cafes are located nearby, providing an easy option for those who prefer to purchase their food on-site. This park is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, and it’s not hard to see why. With its lush greenery, scenic views, and various amenities, this park offers a peaceful and enjoyable escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
